Greenville areas

You have probably heard fantastic things about Greenville, South Carolina and rightfully so. However, if you limit yourself to just the city of Greenville, you are missing out. You will be glad that you explored all of the Greenville areas surrounding the city.

Greenville is a city and there’s also a Greenville county, but there is so much more to the area than that.

Five different counties converge in the Greenville area. Greenville County starts in the north at the South Carolina-North Carolina border and goes down to just south of Princeton, encompassing the city of Greenville, Travelers Rest, parts of Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville and Fountain Inn to the east and Piedmont to the west.

Spartanburg county starts around the Greenville-Spartanburg airport and includes Woodruff to the south and Inman to the north. Laurens County is south of Spartanburg County and west of southern Greenville County and includes Gray Court. Anderson County is to the west of southern Greenville County and includes Williamston in the south and Powdersville at the northern tip. Pickens County is north of Anderson County and west of northern Greenville County and has Pickens and Easley.

All of this is important if you are moving to the Greenville area and have school-age children, since each county has its own school system. Check out each county school district’s ranking as well as individual school rankings

The city of Greenville is ringed with other towns and communities, each of which has its own vibe. Most of these areas are within an easy drive of 30 minutes or less from each other.

The Greenville area has several major highways including I-385, which connects Fountain Inn and Simpsonville to downtown Greenville going north. Going south, it connects to I-26 and takes you to Columbia. I-85 bisects I-385 and goes to the airport and on to the city of Spartanburg to the east or to Powdersville and on towards Anderson and eventually Atlanta. In addition, Route 29 goes west toward Greer and you would hop on Route 276 to visit Travelers Rest.
