Greer

Greer station (Downtown greer)

historic and sophisticated

Greer is located to the northeast of Greenville proper and extends both south of Route 29 and north along the shores of Lake Robinson. It surrounds the Greenville-Spartanburg airport and the majority of it is sandwiched between Route 29 to the north and I-85 to the south. Coming from Greenville, the road to Greer is quite rural, with houses, trailers and farms interspersed with forest.

The downtown area, called Greer Station, consists of two streets, with the main one being Trade Street. Greer was settled in the 1700’s, although it wasn’t incorporated until 1876. Greer Station is a historic area, with over 40 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. But don’t think that makes Greer old and stuffy – rather than a bunch of dusty old museums, the town is humming with contemporary restaurants and shops. The fact that these modern places are housed in historic buildings just gives them an extra element of charm.
